Information for clients

What is psychotherapy?

Psychotherapy is a form of treatment that helps people experiencing a wide range of difficulties. Depression and anxiety are commonly treated through psychotherapy, but also relationship problems, work challenges, physical illness, grief, long-term personality difficulties and general life issues.

Psychotherapy involves talking with a skilled and trained psychologist, with the aim of building a trusting relationship, working through problems, and developing strategies to bring about positive change.

What can I expect?

You can expect to be warmly welcomed, shown into the consulting room, and offered tea, coffee, and water. I will talk through some ethical and practical issues and check to see if you have any questions before we start.

Then, we talk. The first session is about getting to know you (and you getting to know me), understanding the issues that brought you in, and how I might be able to help. We can then decide if psychotherapy is right for you, and how to proceed.
